Worth Noting:
The SNP won the final regional seat by just 41 votes from Labour, after division, thus electing Annabelle Ewing to Holyrood for the first time.
The Liberal Democrats lost both North East Fife and Dunfermline to the SNP but received part-compensation with the election of Willie Rennie as a regional MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife – he took over as party leader following Tavish Scott’s resignation.

Mid Scotland & Fife Regional MSPs in order elected above:
1. Murdo Fraser (Conservative)
2. John Park (Labour)

4. Liz Smith (Conservative)
5. Richard Simpson (Labour)
6. Willie Rennie (Liberal Democrat)

Seven familiar faces to Scottish politics were elected on the Mid Scotland & Fife list. Conservatives Murdo Fraser and Liz Smith returned to Holyrood for their party, while John Park, Claire Baker and Richard Simpson did likewise for Labour. Former MPs Willie Rennie (Liberal Democrat) and Annabelle Ewing (SNP) were also returned. Ewing’s election means that Holyrood now has a husband and wife (Richard and Claire Baker), a father and daughter (Michael and Siobhan McMahon) and a brother and sister (Annabelle and Fergus Ewing) in the chamber.
Since 2011, Bill Walker resigned his Dunfermline seat in disgrace and was replaced in October 2013 by Labour’s Cara Hilton: Labour also held the Cowdenbeath by-election following the death of Helen Eadie.
