This was the 65th constituency to be won by the SNP in the 2011 election, giving the party its overall majority. David Torrance, also a Fife councillor, won the seat from the incumbent Labour MSP, Marilyn Livingstone, who was first elected 1999. A collapse in the Liberal Democrat vote caused John Mainland to lose his deposit.
