Christina McKelvie, a list MSP since 2007, took this seat from Labour’s Tom McCabe, a former Finance Minister and was widely tipped for a tint at the leadership job, on the assumption that Labour would lose but he would retain his seat. Margaret Mitchell was subsequently elected for the third time as the Conservatives’ sole regional MSP. The Liberal Democrat challenger lost his deposit.
Notes: Given boundary changes since 2007, variations in votes and share between seats with different boundaries would be misleading. We use the Denver figures, essentially a calculation of the 2007 votes cast within 2011 boundaries. More information on this here.
