John Mason became an MP in 2008, winning the Glasgow East by-election for the SNP. He then lost the seat to Labour’s Margaret Curran in the 2010 General Election. In 2011 he defeated incumbent Labour MSP Frank McAveety with a near 13% swing to the SNP. McAveety, a former Minister, had been the constituency’s MSP since 1999.
Notes: Given boundary changes since 2007, variations in votes and share between seats with different boundaries would be misleading. We use the Denver figures, essentially a calculation of the 2007 votes cast within 2011 boundaries. More information on this here.
