Glasgow Provan consists of the former Glasgow Springburn (57%) and Glasgow Baillieston (43%) constituencies. A selection contest between Labour MSPs was avoided when Margaret Curran opted to stand for Westminster in the equivalent seat in 2010. Labour’s Paul Martin returned to Holyrood with over 50% of the vote and one of Labour’s most healthy majorities of just over 2,000. Anne McLaughlin – who replaced the late Bashir Ahmad as an MSP for Glasgow region on his death in 2009 – failed to be re-elected in Glasgow. Both the Conservative and Liberal Democrat candidates lost their deposits.
Notes: Given boundary changes since 2007, variations in votes and share between seats with different boundaries would be misleading. We use the Denver figures, essentially a calculation of the 2007 votes cast within 2011 boundaries. More information on this here.
