Cunninghame North was famously won in 2007 by Kenny Gibson with a majority of only 46 votes over Allan Wilson, enough to put the SNP ahead of Labour nationally, with 47 MSPs to their 46. A higher margin would have eased Kenneth Gibson’s worries in 2011, but he nevertheless increased his majority substantially over Allan Wilson this time.
Notes: Given boundary changes since 2007, variations in votes and share between seats with different boundaries would be misleading. We use the Denver figures, essentially a calculation of the 2007 votes cast within 2011 boundaries. More information on this here.
