The constituency was won by Cathy Jamieson MP in Holyrood’s first three elections, but her trade unionist successor Richard Leonard could not retain it. We can only speculate as to whether Cathy, a former Labour leadership candidate and former deputy leader in the Scottish Parliament, would have held on in 2011 if she hadn’t made a career move to the Kilmarnock and Loudoun seat at Westminster.
Notes: Given boundary changes since 2007, variations in votes and share between seats with different boundaries would be misleading. We use the Denver figures, essentially a calculation of the 2007 votes cast within 2011 boundaries. More information on this here.
